Hornbill Music: Festival set to hit the right notes this year
Dimapur, Nov. 26 (EMN): The Hornbill Music Festival (HMF) has completely rebranded itself and is set to be tagged an experiential festival with incredible and diverse line-up of musicians and performers at the Agri Expo, 4th Mile in Dimapur this year.
This was announced by the director of event organisers Live Now Events, Atsung Jamir during a press conference that was conducted on November 26 at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur.
In order to make this year’s music festival ‘experiential,’ the 2019 line-up of artists come from truly diverse backgrounds, genres and cultures, Jamir said.
“We have music for fans of every genre, as well as those that overlap and defy conventional musical forms,” he said.
The festival has reached a certain level of maturity and of coming of age with a little bit of everything.
“To strive for something bigger and moving from the competition is a very mature move while maintaining quality,” he said.
Besides showcasing performances and evening concerts, festival goers can also look forward to an exciting array of activities throughout the day such as hot air balloon rides, competitions open to all and even a day stage for smaller performances from local artists. One can pre-register for the hot air balloon rides.
As a curtain raiser, December 1 will host “Crossroads.” Artistes Divine Connection, Tali Angh, Ayim Longchar, Tokaholi, and Asin Shurhozelie will be performing.
December 2 will be for EDM and Hip-hop fans, with performances by various artistes from the newest record label from Nagaland, Infinty Inc. The headlining act will be DJ Kiran Kartika from Indonesia.
Day-three will be an exclusive night of Indie music called “indie-pendent” during which various artists like The Jam Tree, Papersky, Abdon Mech Band, Trance Effect, and the wonderful band When Chai Met Toast will go up on stage.
Day-four is not to be missed especially for K-Pop fans as Hallyu 2.0 will take place where K-Pop idol group MustB and Korean singer Live Yubin will be performing. Coloured Keys is also scheduled to perform on day-four.
Red Bull Night will be for day-five with just the right musicians to take the stage. Producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Dualist Inquiry is the clear winner in the electronic music scene in India.
On day-six, visitors will be treated to performances from wonderful choral musicians.
The previous year’s winners of the Hornbill International Rock Contest, Perfect Strangers, are back this year to set the stage on fire on December 7 to remind fans why they won the biggest rock music competition in the region in 2018.
Day-eight is not to be missed as one of India’s top folk-rock bands, Swarathma, is definitely going to break new grounds and introduce folk-rock like it has never been heard or seen before in Nagaland.
On day-nine, classic rock band Girish and the Chronicles, is set to perform while the final day of the festival will have a world-class band all the way from London known for their live shows called the ‘The Classic Rock Show.’ The event team also informed that DJ Ultra from Ukraine has been roped in for the concluding segment of the festival.
The 10-day HMF will open gates at 3:00 pm and entry is informed to be from gate-2. Tickets this year will be priced at INR 200 while on Dec. 4th and the 10th, the tickets will be INR 500 and INR 1000.
Live Now also informed that singers from Nagaland are free to take part in a competition which will be held on the day’s stage on Dec. 6 and get an opportunity to win an Epiphone acoustic guitar and other goodies. An ultimate ‘Beatbox Beatdown’ will also take place on Dec. 5. For further details, one may contact the organisers.

The organising team also informed that the Fun Tree Crew from Kohima will be providing security at the main stage during the shows.
