Hornbill Festival: Visitors cross 1 lakh mark

Kisama, Dec. 8 (EMN): About 1, 01, 347 visitors have been registered till date at the ongoing 23rd edition of the Hornbill Festival at Naga Heritage Village in Kisama.

13,189 visitors were recorded on Thursday, according to the data furnished by the department of Tourism, government of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, on day-eight of the cultural connect programme, Hegut Lei folk dance was performed by Zeliang Cultural troupe, Suhta Lam — pestle dance — was performed by Kuki cultural troupe; the Rengma cultural troupe performed a rice-pounding folk song followed by the Kachari Cultural troupe with a war dance.

The Chakhesang cultural troupe performed an enactment of ploughing the paddy field with a folk song along with a frog jump involving the visitors, while Pochury troupe (Kohima) performed Tsothomari, a folk dance; and Ao cultural troupe presented Junglangkak – a game that prepared young lads for warfare in the olden days.

Later in the afternoon session, Pochury cultural troupe performed Jixhunyi dance, followed by Sakhabama village representing Angami cultural troupe with a folk song, the Lotha cultural troupe performed a folk song sung by men while making handicrafts; Garo cultural troupe played a traditional game Ading Oka; while Ao troupe (Dimapur) performed Zinger Tsungsang (lover’s dance); Akikiti was performed by Sumi troupe (Dimapur) and Rengma troupe (Kohima) performed cotton thread spinning song.

CEO, Tata Steel Foundation, Sourav Roy attended the morning session as the chief guest and Debashis Naik, head retail business, eastern region, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, as the honoured guest; S Pangnyu Phom, Minister of Health and Family Welfare was the host while Advisor of Technical Education and Election, Medo Yhokha, was the co-host.

Later in the evening session, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), Major General Vikas Lakhera, was the chief guest; Minister of Soil and Water Conservation and Geology and Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam as host, Advisor of Treasuries and Accounts and National Highways, Dr. Longriniken as co-host.
