Hornbill Festival Day-3: Connecting through dance, songs

Kohima, Dec. 3 (EMN): The “Cultural Connect,” a cultural extravaganza presented by the department of Art and Culture as one of the main events of the Hornbill Festival, witnessed scores of cultural troupes performing an array of Naga customs to the visitors through their rich cultural songs and dances among others on Saturday.

During the morning session, Rengma cultural troupe performed Siikhunki, while Kachari and Lotha troupes presented Slemah Dikhawbani and Iya-Hoi, Holo-Iye respectively.

They were followed by Pochury troupe performing Yalorowhi and Ao group with Arr Malu; while Sumi and Chakhesang troupes presented folk songs and dances to conclude the morning session, wherein Lt. General Jagamohan Singh Sidana, commandant MCEME, Col Commandant Corps EME was the chief guest, accompanied by Temjen Imna Along, minister of Tribal Affairs and Higher Education as the host; and Zhaleo Rio, advisor of Sericulture, Excise, Minority Affairs as co-host. 

In the afternoon session, Sumi cultural troupe presented a song of victory while Zeliang cultural troupe performed a folk dance and Chakhesang group demonstrated a traditional game.

The Angami troupe then took the arena with Seyie Geizo, followed by the Garo troupe with Anseng Rere.

The Kuki troupe performed Lamkol Lam before the Pochury group wrapped up the day’s cultural extravaganza with Chie Wochiewo.

Justice Sanjay Kumar, Chief Justice, Manipur High Court, attended the event as the chief guest accompanied by Amrendra Kumar, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong, and Lt. Gen PC Nair, AVSM, YSN, Ph D, Director General of Assam Rifles, as honoured guests, with S Keoshu, advisor, Village Guards, Information and Public Relations, as the host.
