Holy Cross School felicitates Dipa Karmakar

The staff and students of Holy Cross School, Durjoynagar celebrated their annual sports day and felicitated the ‘Golden Girl’ of Tripura, Dipa Karmakar for her outstanding performances in sports. The ceremony began with a colorful dance in the presence of Robindra Reang, IAS and many other dignitaries. Annual sports day is organized to celebrate the team spirit of every student in the school, which fosters goodwill and a healthy competition among the students.The Principal of the school, Fr.Kanikkai Jeyraj CSC, while welcoming and appreciating said, Dipa Karmakar is the pride of Tripura and she has brought laurels to our state by winning five gold medals at the National Senior Gymnastic All Round Championship in Ranchi in 2001 and five gold medals at the 2015 National Games. She is rated as one of the best Indian gymnasts with 53.75 points. With her great achievement, she is now aiming to participate in the 2016 Olympics. She is the first Indian woman gymnast to win a medal in common wealth games (2014 Glasgow) and the 2nd Indian gymnast. Dipa inspired the students with her few words of encouragement and her very presence.
Robindra Reang, IAS, Director of the Tribal Welfare, appreciated the students’ sportive spirit, the colorful march-past and the mass-drill. He talked of sports for all round development as it helps to build good character. Eight different houses participated in various events of the sports meet and won the prizes for their good performances.
