Kohima, Aug. 15 (EMN): As part of Independence Day celebration, the Hindu Society members residing in the state capital undertook a charitable visitation to the district jail in Kohima, where they interacted with the inmates and distributed eatables and snacks.

Interacting with Eastern Mirror, Jailer, District Jail Kohima, Teisi Thou, expressed happiness that an organisation like Hindu Society could reach out to the prisoners on a momentous occasion which, he said, is a “rare moment” for them.

Terming the visitation as a “refreshing” moment for the inmates, Thou informed that there are convicts from different communities and races in the district jail.

The prison officer informed that presently, they have about 54 prisoners out of which one is female. Anand Upadhyay, a member from the visiting team expressed happiness that they were able to meet “all kinds of people from different states” at the prison to celebrate the country-wide Independence Day with them.
