Dimapur, Dec. 5: The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has condemned what a Raj Bhavan press release on Monday said was vandalising of temples and idols of deities in Bangladesh’s northern Netrokona area on December 4 last.

“The incident of vandalising temples and idols of deities is completely wrong, deplorable and senseless and shameless. The attacks on several Hindu (sic) in Bangladesh were carried out under a well orchestrated plan with an ulterior motive in demolishing the temples.

“Police and concerned administration (sic) was bound to save the temple, and it is their duty to protect the buildings belonging to the minorities. Minority communities of Bangladesh should join together to protect their places of worship and attack against minorities,” read a Raj Bhavan press release on Monday.
The vandalising of the temple and damaging idols of deities is contrary to the values and principles of any religion, it stated.

“It is high time to take remedial and protective steps by the concerned authority for the protection of minorities and their religious places there.

“We in India all the secular groups, all our Indian minority religious organisations, including the Church leaders have to raise our voice against this fanaticism and protect the spirit of secularism and ensure that this kind of incident does not recur,” the governor said.
