Governor visits Nagaland University Lumami

Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland and Chief Rector Nagaland University, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited the Nagaland University (NU) Headquarters at Lumami on Tuesday. 

Mukhi said that despite geographical and communication challenges, NU had grown quantitatively and qualitatively since its inception in 1994, committed towards achieving a single goal of transforming it into a centre of excellent and vibrant knowledge.

He expressed confidence that “the university has been providing quality education to the young minds to make them capable of protecting and preserving the traditional values of Nagaland in terms of honesty, simplicity, hard work, commitment, love, compassion and fraternity”.

Maintaining that the rainforest of the Northeast and Nagaland will help fulfil the commitment in meeting global environment needs and reduce the use of fossil fuel. He also urged the varsity to strive towards preserving the sustainable lifestyle values for the present as well as future generation and suggested each campus to adopt five villages as model villages.

The governor stated that National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was designed with an aim to create innovative mind and a pool of job givers. He expressed hope that the university will implement the NEP in the next academic session.

Stressing on the importance of physical health, he said the university should adopt some programmes where students can take up games and exercises of their own liking, while urging everyone to follow all SOPs in view of the ensuing pandemic.

Vice Chancellor of NU Prof. Pardesi Lal said the prime objective of the university is to meet the requirements of the students academically. He added that “any society where women strive for higher education, can be regarded a society with a positive vision and Nagaland University having an enrolment percentage of more than 62% of girl students, can definitely be acknowledged as a society moving in a proper direction”.
