Governor presents Young Talent Artiste awards

Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi, gave away the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) Young Talent Artiste (YTA) award to 11 persons during a ceremony held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on March 24.

Ravi, while congratulating the award recipients, said the award presentation programme was postponed earlier due to Covid-19 pandemic and with arrival of vaccine as well as the required protocols. He expressed hope that the people would overcome the pandemic soon, an update from Raj Bhavan stated.

While stating that NEZCC has performed exceptionally well over the years, Ravi added that there is a need for course correction saying, “states are political entity and the core character is politics and power- there is aggressiveness in it, and culture is an attribute of society- there is harmony and it brings people together.” 

He also stated that the character of states is getting imbued in the functioning of the zonal cultural centres. Also stating that culture of the state is basically the culture of the people living in a region, he has stressed on the need to highlight them saying, “the continuum of it brings people together.”

Ravi presented the YTA award 2018-19 to John Paleng for folk and tribal dances and songs; Debajit Deka for mime; Rajashre Sarma for theatre; Shivam Saikia for theatre; Khumanthem Nganthoileima for folk song; Haobam Hemlata Devi for theatre; Milan Laishram for painting; Dalariti Gratel Kharnaior for folk song; Shovezo Keyho for painting and sculpture; Mhasiselhu Viyie for sculpture; and Meribeni Ngullie for beads making.

NEZCC director, Gouri Basu, delivered the welcome address and cultural troupes from Manipur presented traditional dances.
