Gov. wants Chang women to lead community building initiative

Dimapur, Sep. 12 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland has urged women of the Chang community to lead community building initiatives that would see results in the form of health, good environment, and even employment for community members. PB Acharya was in Tuensang on September 9, updates informed.

The governor also donated a sum of INR one lakh to the Changsao Thangjam Setshang, or Chang women’s organisation, to be used for promotion of skill development activities.

The public relations cell of the governor issued a statement informing about the governor’s visit. According to the updates, Governor Acharya urged the women’s organisation to be frontrunners of development for their society and to empower the people, especially the youth. He urged them to empower the community with skills to improve the economy and solve the problem of unemployment Nagaland has been facing for a long time.

Likewise, the governor was of the opinion that the Chang women organisation should take the initiative to keep the district clean; the women’s community should educate the citizens about waste management, the updates said. He called upon the organisation to identify recyclable items and reuse them. He said that recycling things would not only help in reducing pollution and help to make the environment healthier, it will also create employment too.

As for the donation, Acharya told the community to use it as seed money; use it to ‘encourage’ skill development in the district, the updates informed. He encouraged the women’s organisation to promote the growth of Nagaland state, too, through skill development. The governor also talked to them about various central and state government welfare schemes and projects, including the Mudra Bank from which entrepreneurs can avail loans at nominal interest rates and start businesses.

Further, the updates informed, Acharya encouraged the women to adopt government schools and strengthen them for the welfare of the society and for the cause of education.

Besides the tribal community, Governor Acharya also held an interactive session with the non-Naga community members, non-Naga business people and service providers living in Tuensang, the updates informed. He interacted with them in the CKS hall. He called upon the gathering to strive to live in peace, pursue community welfare and to care for their town.

The governor appealed to the community for come forward and to contribute to the relief fund meant for people affected by the recent monsoon-related emergencies in the state. INR 8,030 was collected during the drive, the updates said. The collected contribution was later submitted to the deputy commissioner’s establishment, the updates read.
