Gorkha community pays homage to martyr

Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): Dimapur Gorkha Union, an apex body of Gorkha community in Dimapur, along with Gorkha Students’ Union Dimapur (GSUD), Gorkhas officials and other organisations paid tribute to the slain Gorkha martyr Hav. Param Bahadur Shrestha, whose body was brought to the Dimapur and later sent to his native places in Barapathar in Assam on October 22.

Hav. Padam Bahadur Shrestha was deployed on the Line of Control in Tangdhar Sector and sustained splinter injuries during unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan army in the early hours of October 20. He was evacuated to Field Hospital, Tangdhar, but succumbed to his injuries.

Hav. Padam Bahadur Shrestha (38) joined the Indian army in 2001. He belonged to Dighali Pather village of Dhansiri tehsil in Golaghat district of Assam and is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Several Gorkha organisations in Nagaland received the mortal remains of Padam Bahadur Shrestha on arrival at Dimapur airport on October 22. Large number of Gorkha public marched with the convoy carrying the mortal remains till Dighalipathar Hatighuli village.

In an update, the Dimapur Gorkha Union and Gorkha Students’ Union Dimapur have expressed gratitude to various organisations who were present during the reception programme.
