Kohima, Sep. 1 (EMN):
Advisor of School Education, KT Sukhalu, on Thursday, said girls can contribute a lot more to society if they continue to perform well in academics, which in turn will mould their careers and life.

While acknowledging that girls are outperforming boys in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations, the advisor encouraged the girls to dream of becoming leaders and responsible citizens of the state.

Sukhalu was addressing the ‘Medha Chatravriti Yojana’ scholarship function given to the top 75 girls students of HSLC 2022, at Capital Convention Centre in Kohima.

He told them to be ‘wise enough to know what to take and where to go’, confident and prepared to face the world.

‘If we are true to ourselves, we can become somebody someday’, Sukhalu added.

The advisor also said that getting married is ‘not the end of life’ but instead, they should dream of achieving greater heights in their careers as well.

“Yes, a time will come when you will grow up and you will settle down, get married; but that’s not the end of life”, he said.

‘When good education has been given, one should pursue your dreams’, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, he admitted that School Education department had been given the most number of “ultimatums” and assured that it is trying to reform things and address issues one by one.

Deputy General Manager of Dimapur Depot, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOC), Huwuto Sema, said ‘Medha Chatravriti Scholarships 2022’ is an educational scholarship scheme sponsored by IOC as part of the corporate social responsibility to the top 75 girls students of the HSLC examination 2022 conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).

The first 75 girls were selected to signify the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. The scholarship covers 2400 girl students across the country at an estimated cost of INR 2.47 crore, he said, adding that the corporation has taken up several other schemes for the education of girls.

The IOC presented certificates and cash award of INR 10,000 each to the top 75 girl students from Nagaland.

Other highlights of the programme included a song by Arolu Phesao, The Vineyard, Kohima; a welcome address by NBSE Chairman Asano Sekhose; and a demonstration on the safe use of gas by the IOC team.
