German exchange service workshop discusses welfare

Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): The second day of the Daad (German Academic Exchange Service) alumni workshop was conducted on Nov. 4 at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur, with the motto ‘health perspective for impoverished populations.’
The event was organised by Rhondemo A Kikon of the Community Health Initiative, and Andreas Deckert and Andreas Ruppel for the Institute of Global Health, University of Heidelberg, Germany. The workshop will conclude on November 10.

The opening remark to the event was given by Community Health Initiative and the Daad’s young ambassador Rhondemo A Kikon. He highlighted the health challenges in Nagaland due to its isolated geographical condition, poor infrastructure, lack of skilled healthcare workers, low percent of hospital or health centre deliveries, and low vaccine coverage for children.

Kikon informed the gathering about the Community Health Initiative’s vision that it is to support the development of healthier and sustainable communities in Nagaland. Its mission is to provide innovative and evidence-based solution to health and other social challenges in Nagaland.

Further, Kikon said that the focus area will be primary health care, water sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and livelihood. The goal and outcome of this workshop is to support the Kailash satyarthi Children’s Movement, and by following the child-friendly village concept to improve children’S health in three targeted locations in Nagaland.

An official of the World Health Organisation, Shoira Yusupova discussed issues concerning Pamir, which is stated to be the highest territory of Tajikistan and Murgab. It is total isolation due to climate condition, the gathering was told.

Yusupova said that unless the country decides on appropriate health financing and care to employ people in Murgab, it will be forgotten.

During the occasion, a member of the Northeast Institute of Social Science and Research C P Anto discussed the Peace Channel and informed that the peace advocacy group is an emerging youth peace movement of the third millennium. It aims at the transformation of the society as ‘peace lovers and peace promoters’ led by their motto ‘Be a channel of peace.’
