Funeral held for former Nagaland minister YM Yollow Konyak

Dimapur: The funeral service of former minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change,  government of Nagaland, YM Yollow Konyak, was held at Konyak Community centre, Dimapur on Thursday, before his mortal remains were taken to his native village, Wakching in Mon district.

Konyak’s remains arrived at Dimapur airport at around 11:30 am, where he was received by family, friends, ministers, former MLAs, and well wishers.

He passed away on March 22 after suffering cardiac arrest at Dr. BL Kapur Memorial Hospital in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment for an ailment related to the lungs.

Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, also paid his respect and delivered a short speech during the service. He shared about their friendship over the years as legislators and praised Konyak for never hesitating to speak his mind. Zeliang added that he was good at heart, “which is very admirable”.

Also paying tribute, CL John, Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change; and Village Guards, delivered a short speech representing the Konyak elected legislators as well as Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU).

Tributes and short speeches were also shared by various representatives from Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union Dimapur, Konyak Union Dimapur, Wakching Wankon Ütüp Dimapur, Wakching Union Dimapur, Padumpukhuri Village Council, Konyak Union Kohima, Wakching Union Kohima, Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Dimapur and others.
