The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) on Monday asked the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, to fulfil the promise to give a government job each to the families of Mon incident victims.

Addressing a press conference at Piphema, ENSF president Chingmak Chang said that it’s been more than a month since the CM had mentioned about giving government jobs to the victims’ families in his funeral speech at Mon but “there have been no news about it”.

On this, he asked the CM to fulfil the assurance at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that the government of India had announced an ex-gratia of INR 11 lakh and a government job to the family of each victim, while state government announced an ex gratia of INR 5 lakh each.

Chang also claimed that they were told during meeting with government of Nagaland and Ministry of Home Affairs that the jawans involved in the killings would be suspended “but so far we have not seen any suspension order, and this is the right time the government of India should give in ‘black and white’ and the public of Nagaland should know about it”.

He went on to demand that when the Special Investigative Team that is probing the Oting killing should make its report available in the public domain.

Reiterating the memorandum submitted to the government of India through the prime minister on December 23, he stated that justice should be served to the 14 victims by booking of all the jawans and officers involved in the gruesome killings.

He also reiterated the demand for compensation of INR 1 crore each to all the victims’ families and INR 50 lakh each to the injured who are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

Speaking about the injured persons, he said that they were once assets to their families but have become liability as they have been crippled permanently.

He went on to say that they would continue to agitate and stand by the resolutions, including non co-operation to the military forces, which were passed by the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO) and other frontal organisations  last month, until justice is delivered.

Advisor to ENSF, Howang Wangsu also stated that they would continue to boycott all national events till justice is delivered, as per resolution of ENPO and Konyak Union.
