Former Nagaland minister YM Yollow Konyak passes away

DIMAPUR — Former Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, government of Nagaland, YM Yollow Konyak, passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday.

He was 53 and is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

Konyak died after suffering a cardiac arrest at Dr. BL Kapur Memorial Hospital in the national capital where he was undergoing treatment for ailment related to lung.

A source informed that he was taken to Delhi for treatment on March 2.

The mortal remains of the former minister are expected to reach Dimapur Airport at around 11 am on Thursday, after which a funeral service will be held at private residence in Padumpukhuri, Dimapur.

After the service, his body will be taken to Panla Morung in his native village Wanching in Mon district, where he will be laid to rest.

YM Yollow Konyak was sworn in as the minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition government last year, filling in the berth vacated by CM Chang of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), who died in October 2020.

He was earlier elected to the NLA from 42-Wakching Assembly Constituency on an Independent ticket in 2013 before being re-elected in the 2018 Assembly poll on Naga People’s Front (NPF) ticket.

He filled nomination to contest in the recently held state assembly election on a Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) ticket from the same constituency, from he had represented for two consecutive terms, before withdrawing his candidature.
