Forest Minister Kire calls for forest conservation

MINISTER of Forests, Environment, Ecology and Wild Life Dr. Nicky Kire toured Phek forest division from September 15 to 17 and inspected project sites.
On the first day, the minister visited Zapami Community Conservation Area and Lozaphuhu FDA plantation site, and urged the villagers to be responsible stakeholders of the conserved area, and appreciated the community effort taken up by the villagers. On September 16, the minister addressed the village council members and local functionaries of Ketsapo village at the village community hall and acknowledged the village community for conserving the Laka Forest Range, which is an important watershed for Phek town.
Meanwhile, the minister inspected the FDA plantation site at Ketsapo, which is the recipient of the best JFMC Award 2014 under Phek Forest Division. The minister encouraged JFMC Ketsapo to tour Old Jalukie JFMC Plantation site (Peren Division) for sharing and learning new ideas from each other. The minister assured that he would sponsor their tour to Old Jalukie (JFMC) recipient of India Biodiversity Award 2014 for best JFMC in India. The village community thanked the minister for visiting the project site and said that his visit was the first of its kind by any minister in the village. In the afternoon, Dr. Nicky Kire addressed the staffs of Phek Forest Division at DFO Office. DFO Phek, Rongsenlemla Imchen highlighted the activities of the division and acknowledged the minister for his visit which has given the division the much needed push to reinforce their commitment to work towards the upliftment of the department as a whole.
