Dimapur, August 3

THE Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFRCC) have in a significant development unanimously reaffirmed its earlier resolution against making compensation in any form to land owners in the process of the road construction along the route stretching from Dimapur to Tizit in Mon district. The meeting was held at the residence of Yashitungba, the Committee Treasurer. The reaffirmation came about in the backdrop of the resolutions adopted by Lotha Lower Public Organisation (LLPO) during its emergency meeting on August 1 where they appealed for nominal compensation in the event which might lead to loss of resources in the process of road construction.
This view was strongly opposed by the house who were of the unanimous decision that in pursuit for every good thing, people should make certain amount of sacrifices.
It may be mentioned here that in the earlier meetings, the Committee had resolved not to pay compensation to landowners, cut percentage against Naga political groups and politicise the process of constructing the road.
The confusion over the status of the proposed foothill road vis a vis the four-lane road and connectivity road was also clarified amongst the members.
It is now clear that the proposed Foothill Road also called “People’s Road” is totally separate from other connectivity roads which aims to connect Dimapur to Tizit.
The public are being asked to direct their attention and insist on early completion of the proposed foothill road.
The Committee has called a joint meeting with officials of concerned department on August 8 in Hotel Saramati at 10 a.m. for finalisation of the project.
October 2013, the scheduled month for the kick off of the anticipated 250 kms stretch may be some time away but not so for the committee members. Perhaps, keeping in mind the health of the existing roads in the state the Committee members announced a two hour of prayer and fasting programme on August 14 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
They said the prayer and fasting programme is being necessitated for smooth and speedy construction of the proposed foothill road. They have appealed to all churches to disseminate information to respective members for observing the programme.
