Four shops have been completely gutted when a major fire broke out at Monsen Bai ward adjacent to Assam Rifles check post in Mokokchung in the wee hours of Saturday. Reports said the inferno which started at around 3 am on Saturday morning burnt down goods worth around rupees nine lakhs sixty thousand.Even though no loss of life was reported, two fire tenders along with support from police personnel and colony people residing around the incident site managed to extinguish the fire at around 4:30 am before it could spread to the nearby areas.
The cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained.
According to police source the house belonged to a group from Ungma village.
PS II C.O Manen said that in connection with the incident an FIR has been filed and the matter is under enquiry.
