FIR filed against 2 Geology and Mining staff for violating govt. order

Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): The Wokha inspection team constituted to check toll gates caught two staff of the Geology and Mining department issuing transit pass at Sanis “O” point junction under Sanis sub-division, Wokha district without proper procedure and in contravention to government order and directives.

An FIR was further was lodged by the inspection team at Sanis Police Station for proper investigation and further necessary action against the two staff — BenthungoTungoe and  Tensumanen Jamir — who were found in this connection.

Accordingly, Sanis Police Station registered a case based and arrested the duo and seized INR 20900 collected from four vehicles along with blank challans and a register from their possession, Further Investigation is in progress, an update from SP (Crime) and PRO, Nagaland Police informed.

The team visited NST Wokha Town Council Toll-Tax booth at NST Colony and Longsa Village, “O” Point junction at Sanis, Bhandari Town Council toll-tax near Inter-State Police check gate at Bhandari and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Quarantine check post at Merapani.

The team along with the ADC Bhandari inspected the Bhandari Town Council toll-tax booth adjacent to Inter-state Police Check Gate Bhandari but it was found closed.

The Inspecting Team inspected the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry quarantine check post at Foothill, Merapani. It said that the team interacted with Dr. Wopenthung Odyuo, Deputy Director, in-charge of the quarantine check post. He stated that the department will wait till May 31 for further direction from the government on whether the check post will continue or close down. However, he also stated that the department had no issue with closing down the quarantine check post on the grounds of revenue collection. It said that the main concern of the department is the likelihood of spreading diseases by livestock unless the department thoroughly examines and checks the animals that are transported/ imported from the neighbouring state.

The team also inspected the Wokha Town toll-tax booth located at Longsa gate, which was found closed after the government notification. The team removed the signboards which were found displayed, it added.

Further, the team certified that no check posts/collection booths exist in the district except one inter-state police check post located at Bhandari.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Police has informed the public that in addition to the existing general helpline number of 112, dedicated mobile numbers and email ID have been placed at the control room for receiving any complaints/information regarding illegal collection of money from vehicles at any check gates or at any other location in the state or the presence of any unauthorised persons at the check gates. It stated that the public can contact the Nagaland Police officers whose mobile numbers are available in the ‘Call Your Cop’ mobile App. It added that the confidentiality of all persons reporting such complaints would be maintained, if so desired.
