Farmers urged to advocate organic farming

Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): ATMA Chunlikha block under Kohima district had conducted a one-day demonstration programme on May 19 for various villages under Chunlikha block.
BTT convenor, Micheal (ACTO, KVK Tesophenyu), shared about the concept and importance of food security and some of the alternate ways of preserving agricultural produce where there are no facilities of proper cooling storage. He also advised farmers to emphasise more on kitchen garden and its basic necessities.
He has demonstrated on scientific practices and packaging of Kharif crops for marketing. Besides, imparted knowledge on pest management on paddy by introducing Ticho-cards in to the field.
Block Technology Manager (BTM) Kekhriesielie conducted a demonstration programme on organic seed treatment using pseudomonas strain on paddy seeds at Tesophenyu new village. He encouraged the famers to focus on Biofertilizers rather than using chemical fertilizers. He also spoke on the benefit of Biofertilizers in controlling various fungal and bacterial diseases which affects the crop. Precautionary measures, methods and dosage were also taught to the farmers.
Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) Sinlo Khing demonstrated on preparation of nursery bed for paddy seeds at Tesophenyu new village. He also spoke on the importance of spacing according to its variety and how it affects the crop yield and also techniques involving in nursery bed preparation for higher yield comparing to traditional method.
ATM Kebegi Kent demonstrated on management of post- harvest diseases of potato at Tesophenyu new village. She highlighted some of the control measures and management practices of tuber diseases such as brown rot, potato wart, dry rot and charcoal rot. She also spoke on various types of storage structures which can be maintained by the farmers easily in an cost-effective way. A total of 37 farmers were benefited from the demonstration programme.
