Farmers trained on scientific cultivation of vegetable crops

Dimapur, Oct.4 (EMN):  A training programme on “Scientific cultivation of cool season vegetable crops” was conducted for farmers by AICRP (vegetable crops) Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU under TSP (Tribal Sub Plan).

The training was held at Hekheshe village, an adopted village of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP)-VC, SASRD, NU since 2016, on October 3, a press statement from dept. of Horticulture informed on Friday.

Two technical sessions were conducted during the training programme — the first session was on “Scientific cultivation of cool season vegetable crops” delivered by Moakala Changkiri, scientist, AICRP (VC) and the second delivered by Waluniba, scientist, AICRP (VC) on “Insect pest management of cool season crops.”

“A practical demonstration on seedling root dip method, a way to organically treat the seedlings with Trichoderma before transplanting,” was also conducted after the session. It was followed by “preparation of NSKE (Neem Seed Kernel Extract) and yellow sticky trap to be used against insect pest,” it informed.

A vermicompost unit, mushroom unit and lime demonstration units, which have been established in the village, have benefitted the farmers through TSP- AICRP (VC), the statement read. They also collected feedback from the farmers based on the seeds and other inputs they received earlier under TSP programme.

A total of 80 farmers participated in the training programme where seeds of cool season vegetable crops like cabbage, coriander, tomato, radish, French bean and palak were distributed to all the participants.
