Explosion in Imphal on Saturday
IMPHAL, March 8
Unidentified persons suspected to be armed militants exploded a hand grenade in front of MM Higher Secondary school,Wangkheimayum Leirak Wangkhei in Manipur’s Imphal East district around 7.20 pm last night,local sources said. However there is no report of any human casualty during the explosion as the bomb explodes just outside the main gate of the school facing northern side, sources added.Police has been investigating into the incident.
No armed groups operating in the state claimed responsibility for the incident till the report goes to the press.MM Higher secondary,Wangkhei was in the news in the recent times in connection withe the non-issuance of admit cards for the Central Board of Schools Education(CBSE) sponsored annual examination for class X and XII which begins from March 2 onwards. A key functionary of the school management committee said the school has been facing threat from an armed group.
Earlier in the day on Saturday,a bomb was also found hanging at the gate of one Yanglem Janaki of Uripok Achom Leikai in Imphal west district. The reason behind the incident incident is yet to be established. The incident evoked protest from the local womenfolks who later staged a sit in demonstration denouncing the unwanted act.Meanwhile another bomb like substance was detected on a roadside footpath located near the Gauhati High Court judge’s quarters and entry point of Manipur Press club along the Kangla pat road in Imphal this morning. However the bomb like substance turned out to be clothes etc after police checked the items, reports added.
