Expert visits Longleng to prepare business plan for BLF

Dimapur, Aug. 23 (EMN):
To support the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in preparing business plans for the bought leaf factories (BLF) for the financial year 2019-2020, national resource person Debashis Mandal made a three-day visit to Longleng, Nagaland from August 20 to the 22nd.

An update from the department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) informed that Mandal, who was empanelled by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) for the cause, visited few village-level organisations (VLOs) and self-help groups (SHGs) from Yongnyah and Pongching villages to understand the loan pattern and repayment behaviour of women members. He also assessed the future loan requirement by the SHGs which was required for preparing the BLF business plan.

On the third day, Mandal had a day-long meeting and interaction with the executive committee members of the BLF in the presence of the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) staff to finalise and prepare the future projection as part of the final business plan.

The update mentioned that the members of SHGs formed Mongchemla block-level federation on October 4, 2017 with 176 SHGs from 15 villages. It added that the NSRLM has been providing support to the federation and that it would be registered as a cooperative under the national Co-operative Societies Act in the future.

The federation presently has 24 executive committee members constituted by the members SHGs.

Officials inspect water bodies

Dharam Raj, IAS, assistant secretary in Road, Transport and Highways; district administration; and two officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti Abhiyaan visited Longleng on August 19 to inspect the water bodies in the area.

An update from Manjong Phom, IA, Longleng, informed that they visited RKUY Fishery ponds, community water reservoir and KUK water conservation dam at Yachem, Sanglu, Yaongyimsen, Chingtok and Orongkong on August 19.

On August 20, Shakshi block official from Jal Shakti Abhiyaan visited Pongo village to make clean drinking water available to the populace round the year, drinking water availability, geo-tagging the water bodies and water sources identification. The officials also visited private fisheries and community water reservoir, added the update.
