Entrepreneurship awareness programme held in Kohima

Dimapur, March 10 (EMN): MSME Development Institute, Dimapur, under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, government of India, in collaboration with Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and District Industries Centre (DIC) conducted a one-day entrepreneurship awareness programme in Kohima on March 9.

The programme, which was attended by prospective entrepreneurs, deliberated on PMEGP loan, MSME schemes and financial literacy besides sharing of success stories by entrepreneurs, an update from BAN stated. It stated that resource persons from District Industries Centre, private and public sector banks, MSME DI and BAN spoke during the programme.

BAN president, L Mongkum Jamir, has highlighted the apathy of the financial institutions in Nagaland. Describing bank finance as a key lifeline for entrepreneurs, he claimed that banks in the state are not issuing enough loans and thereby discouraging entrepreneurship. He stated that it was reflected by the poor credit-deposit (CD) ratio of Nagaland banks (43.2%) compared to the national CD ratio (71.7%) as per RBI 2021 data. 

The joint director of MSME-DI, Tali Longchar; general manager of DIC, Sukhonlal Langthasa; chief manager of Nagaland state cooperative bank, Nchumthung Kikon; assistant general manager of IDBI bank, Rangshong Levis; president of Glocal Concepts Nagaland, Kezhangulie; and BAN executive member Benthungo Kithan, spoke during the programme.

BAN installs Kohima district chapter

Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has launched the Kohima chapter during a programme held at the District Industries Center conference hall, Kohima, on March 9 and appointed Ruguokhrietuo Kesiezie as district convenor of the Kohima chapter.

Speaking at the programme, BAN president L Mongkum Jamir stated that the organisation was formed by the Naga Council Dimapur in 2013 especially to look into the problems faced by the Naga business community. He added that over the years, BAN has taken up important tasks and expressed confidence that with the establishment of district units they would be able to reach out to Naga entrepreneurs throughout the state. 

The district chapter would comprise five coordinators representing services, manufacturing, agriculture, education and trading sectors.

BAN general secretary, Dr. Yan Murry, gave a presentation on the organisation activities, while Kedo Peseyie, pastor of City Church, Kohima, offered the dedicatory prayer.
