Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): Entrepreneurs Associates (EA) extended a zero interest loan of INR 15,000 to Keyilungle, a 27 years old woman street vendor of Jalukie town in Peren district during a programme held on March 11.

The loan was to enable her to pay off a previous loan which she borrowed at 10% per annum from ‘loan sharks,’ which has been depriving her from making any profits, an update from EA stated.

Keyilungle was also one of the 125 women, who attended the programme on uplift of women street vendors organised by EA at JTWWO hall in Jalukie, which is the second of such training in Peren district.

Speaking at the programme, EA head of communication and advisor, Neikule Doulo, stated that the programme for street vendors started after extended observations made about the difficulties of vendors in making significant progress. Doulo encouraged the women to give their very best at work in their pursuit for a better future and also shared success stories of women street vendors, who have purchased land and even scaled up their enterprises after determined financial planning.

Speaking on the importance of healthcare and hygiene, Dr Asappe, medical superintendent, educated the women to frequently wash their hands, maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly. The medical officer stated that masks should be made an essential part of lifestyles even post Covid-19 pandemic as its usage provides multiple benefits.

The ADC of Jalukie, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang has thanked EA for the initiative and encouraged the women to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with the organisation. Dr Tinojongshi also assured assistance to the women for the smooth functioning of their businesses.

It mentioned that EA, supported by Capri Global Capital Ltd., has been assisting street vendors with interest-free loans post the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown as the vendors were finding huge difficulties to repay loans.

Street vendors from Jalukie town and neighboring villages from both the daily markets and weekly bazaars attended the programme.
