Dimapur, June 1 (EMN): Citing unethical price hike of essential commodities by a significant amount, which is severely affecting the economically weaker sections of the society, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has appealed to Nagaland government and competent authorities to stop this menace.

The student body stated in a press release issued on Monday that it has received many complaints regarding some business communities “taking undue advantage of the current pandemic by exponentially and unreasonably increasing the prices of essential commodities”, thus affecting the poor.

Taking cognizance of the matter and the opportunistic attitude of some business communities, the ENSF as requested the government to take action as per its “notification”.

“Meanwhile, ENSF warns those business person(s) taking undue advantage of the crisis to be ethical and more responsible towards the society at this time and juncture of pandemic. On this, the ENSF have also fully empowered all its six federating units to look into the matter and initiate necessary course of action in their respective jurisdiction,” the statement read.

The federation also expressed gratitude and acknowledged the Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) for extending help by providing essential relief items to the eastern Nagas through ENSF as goodwill gesture and “to strengthen our togetherness in the fight against this Covid-19 pandemic”.
