Executive members of the Eastern Nagaland Agri-Allied Farmers’ Association with S Phangnon Konyak in Kohima on September 8.

Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): Officials of the Eastern Nagaland Agri-Allied Farmers Association (ENAAFA) has called on the Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak, and the minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, and sought their support and assistance for improvement of agriculture sector in the region.

ENAAFA officials led by its founder and chief advisor, Wilson K Mongzar, met Phangnon Konyak at her residence in Kohima on September 8 and highlighted the problems faced by the farmers of eastern region. The team has sought her support for improvement of agriculture sector under various programmes, stated an update from ENAAFA.

While assuring her support, Phangnon Konyak has advised the team to work hard and strive to attain self-sufficiency in food production. She further advised them to tie up with KVK and ICAR and to focus more on growing local and traditional crops and other livestock.

The team also called on Imna Along at his official residence on September 9 and supplicated to come forward and take up agriculture projects in the eastern areas as a way to fight against poverty and ensure self-reliance with special reference to coffee farming. The team apprised that the region has favourable climatic condition to develop sustainable coffee cultivation.

It stated that the minister has expressed his willingness to support the eastern farmers with the fund available under his discretion.
