Mokokchung, July 12: A group of Naga People’s Front (NPF) leaders is currently touring Mokokchung district reaching out to the units and to ‘strengthen the grass root NPF units.’ The team is led by Nchumo Kikon, general secretary of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF)
Nchumo Kikon, Mokokchung in-charge, and Yangerlemba, secretary of the NPF, are leading the group which included the NPF’s women wing’s leadership.
Kikon disclosed that the tour was to ‘reach out to the grass roots units of NPF’ and get ‘first hand information about the grievances and problems’ faced by the units and draw a ‘formidable road map’ for the coming state general elections, about seventeen months away.
During the interactive session, the Mokokchung in-charge said that the party was caught in a whirlpool of crises. However, after “reconciliation,” he claimed, the party had “grown much stronger” under the leadership of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and Chief Minister TR Zeliang.Kikon also said that the objective of the tour was to observe the ‘pulse of every assembly constituency and chalk out the problems and ensured doses for the problems.’
The NPF general secretary also lauded the assembly constituencies’ leaders for their ‘dedication and selfless efforts’ to strengthen the party. If the workers at the assembly constituencies work hard ‘it will affect the division and center positively,’ he said.
Saying that Mokokchung district had the highest number of state assembly seats, he urged the party’s worker to prepare for the coming elections and to ‘put tireless efforts to secure all the seats in the district as it did during the ‘70s when UDF secured 10 out of 10 seats.’
Kikon further asserted that politics ‘starts from the smallest unit of the party and it is the airport from where the party will take off successfully for the coming general election.’ The party’s high command has given specific directives to focus on the grass root, he said.
Meanwhile, motivational message was given by Yangerlemba, secretary of the NPF and assistant in-charge of Mokokchung NPF; and by Aphien, vice president of the NPF’s women wing.
The team will also be visiting 23rd Impur assembly constituency and constituencies around Mokokchung town. The tour will culminate on July 16.
