Education platforms, campaigns to households figure in BBBP observance

A special campaign to commemorate the occasion of National Girl Child Day, a door-to-door campaign was conducted on January 21 in Phek.

As part of the weeklong girl education programme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) a special campaign to commemorate the occasion of National Girl Child Day, a door-to-door campaign was conducted on Tuesday in Phek under the aegis of the district’s administration and district level centre for Women Mahila Shakti Kendra of Phek.

Bhavani Sri, subdivision officer, civil, for Phek, highlighted the importance of a weeklong BBBP campaign. The official also called for unity among the womenfolk and to educate women about the harm that tobacco can cause.

Vilenuo Kapu, women welfare officer at the district level center for women-Mahila Shakti Kendra of Phek, highlighted the importance of the door-to-door campaign.

She stressed on how the door to door campaign can be used as an effective tool to address various issues concerning the society.

Besides, Mahila Shanti Kendra Phek staff, Anganwadi workers from the child development project officer for Phek also joined the campaign.

The campaign covered 180 households in Phek town.

The campaign was carried out with an aim to spread one of the main objectives of BBBP ie., to ensure education and participation of the girl child.

The next programme about the BBBP activities will be broadcast on January 22 on local TV channels in Phek headquarter.

Mon

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) also gave updates on Tuesday informing about the BBBP activities that are scheduled for Mon district.

The Mon district administration in collaboration with the district level centre for women-Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) will be observing the BBBP Week from January 20 to 26 to commemorate the occasion of National Girl Child Day ie., January 24 to educate people and engage the community across Mon district, the IPR stated.

The following activities have been planned:
January 20: Pledge-taking along with the district task force’s meeting.

January 21: Educating people about the BBBP to every household; BBBP stickers to be pasted on new LPG cylinders, vehicles, and buildings. Door-to-door campaigns will be conducted by Anganwadi workers.

January 22: Framed banners of women empowerment quotes to be permanently displayed in the Mon town council hall.

January 23: Interviews of parents and relatives of BBBP district icons and a video ‘presentation’ on health and hygiene management, nutrition for women and PC & PNDT Act, and women-related issues to be released.

January 24: Celebration of Girl Child Day’ at Longwa village.

January 25: Felicitation of ‘mother and child’ in the district hospital of Mon.

January 26: BBBP, MSK and One Stop Centre stall, BBBP drill, signature campaign, selfie with daughter frames during the Republic Day celebrations, the IPR stated.

A separate note from the Mon administration informed also that the district’s administration in collaboration with the district level centre for women observed the first day of BBBP week on January 20 with various activities.

Thavaseelan K, deputy commissioner, highlighted the BBBP Week programme to the members.

During the meeting, the speakers emphasised on education of the girl child and the need to organise seminars and workshops on various issues relevant to women. They spoke about the poor health facilities and the need to improve them, the updates stated. Issues of malnutrition and other health issues faced by women especially in the rural areas were highlighted during the programme, the updates stated.

Other issues that were discussed included the problems faced by women ‘which include lack of livelihood and education opportunities,’ according to the note.
