BJP to field two professors for LS poll in Manipur
Imphal: Gangmumei Kamei and R K Ranjan, former professors of Manipur University, will be the BJP candidates in the coming Lok Sabha elections in the state, party sources said today. While Ranjan will contest from inner Manipur constituency (Valley districts), Kamei will be the candidate in the outer Manipur constituency (Hill districts). Polls in outer Manipur would be held on April 9 and inner Manipur on April 17. Sources in CPI said senior party leader and former veterinary minister M Nara would be the party candidate in inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.Jolly calls on Aruanchal CM
Itanagar: Eastern Air Command Commanding-in-Chief Air Marshal R K Jolly along with Air vice marshal Praveen Bhatt called on Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and discussed various issues related to activities and projects of the India Air Force in Arunachal Pradesh. Tuki, during the meeting yesterday, appreciated the goodill gesture of the Air Force in extending services to the people of the state at times of need. To a proposal of the Air Force to establish an Air Force Liaison Cell in the vicinity of the state capital, the chief minister assured support and cooperation. Chief secretary Ramesh Negi, who was also present during the meeting resolved to convene a meeting of all concerned officials and departments soon to take up the issues raised by the Air Force so that all its projects in the state are completed successfully without. The AOC-in-Chief apprised the chief minister that the Air Force is keen to work in the social sectors for the benefit of local residents like conducting medical camps in remote and inaccessible areas.
Bomb hoax in Manipur
Imphal: A bomb hoax created panic at Oksu Mishi Makhong under Lamlai police station in Manipur’s Imphal East district after a road opening party of 49 BSF stationed at Laikoiching detected the suspicious object at around 9.30 am today. The roads leading to the village were blocked for a while by the BSF personnel after the suspicious object was detected. However, the suspicious object turned out to be a polythene bag, reports said.
Mega mock exercise in 2 Mnp dists
Imphal: Manipur is all set to conduct a mega mock exercise in two district headquarters – Imphal East and Thoubal – on March 13. Disclosing this to media persons during a hurriedly called press conference at Old Secretariat Conference Hall here, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga said the mega mock exercise will be conducted by the State Disaster Management under the directive of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). 5 locations identified in Imphal East and Thoubal District,” says Chief Secretary Lawmkunga.
