DMC’s devp project begins: City drainage gets cleared

The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) led by its Chief Executive Officer Atokhe Aye on Tuesday began the second-phase of the council’s developmental initiative by cleaning the most important drainage in the town’s center along Church Road. The drainage connects the tributary drainages in and around the town. Present at the spot, Atokhe Aye who was said that work on the solid waste-filled drain began on Tuesday and is being cleaned by 10 hired labors. However, it will take more than a month to clean the entire length of the drainage at Church Road, he said.
According to the administrator, the first phase of the council i.e., repairing roads in the central town areas which commenced early this year was still in progress. The second-phase of development works, such as the clearing drainages, covering the two most important drainages at Church Road and Nagarjan junction, will be completed before the monsoon season arrives.
Aye said that the DMC chose the drainage at Church Road it was the main drainage connecting various drainage points in the town, Kher Mahal, and the Assam-Nagaland border. The flow of drains will be disturbed if the main channel is blocked, he said.
