Districts organise training on Covid-19

Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): Office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Phek, conducted a district-level training on the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the conference hall of District Hospital, Phek, on March 20.

The training was conducted for the block SMOs, MOs, nurses, MOs from the Assam Rifles, 5th NAP battalion, CMO staff, NHM staff, MOs from DH to sensitise them about the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) that is fast spreading globally.

In a keynote address, Dr. Vibeituonuo Mepfuo, CMO Phek, briefed the gathering on the objectives of the training and apprised the health workers to be prepared to tackle any eventualities. She informed the participants to form block task force (BTF) and create awareness on Covid-19 in their respective blocks.

The resource persons namely Dr. K Kuotsu from DH Phek, Dr. Limanukshi from DH Phek, Dr. Lanuakum, DVBO, and Dr. Limatoshi, epidemiologist, trained the health workers to prevent infection and control standard precautions, maintained environmental cleaning, disinfection and biomedical waste management, to identify severe cases clinically etc.

Demonstration of donning and doffing of personal protection equipments (PPE) was also conducted by the trained nurses on Covid-19.

Altogether, 63 participants attended the training.

In a similar programme, Zunheboto district organised a training on Covid-19 on March 20 in the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office.

During the training, Dr. Hotokhu, director (dental) from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, urged all health workers to be in their place of posting and follow the guidelines set by the government. He also emphasised on the importance to create awareness on Covid-19 at the grassroots, an update from CMO, Zunheboto, stated.

Dr. Alemwapang Aier, DPO (RCH &UIP), spoke on information management, environment cleaning, disinfection and bio-waste management, laboratory surveillance and risk communication and community engagement.

Dr. Chumdemo, junior specialist from DH, Zunheboto, had highlighted about infection prevention and control standard precautions, demonstration of donning and doffing of PPE, clinical case management, hospital preparedness, and non pharmaceutical interventions.

Also speaking at the training, Dr. Zhekheli Chishi, epidemiologist, DSU, spoke on risk assessment, cluster containment strategy, and community assessment.

Besides medical personnel, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, church leaders, representatives from ZCCI, ZRSU, STH, GBs, ZAPO, and ANPSA Zunheboto attended the training.
