District-level Science Fair held in Shamator, Tseminyu

DIMAPUR — Department of School Education, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland and the office of the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Shamator, organised a district-level Science Fair 2023 on September 1 at the auditorium of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Shamator on the topic “Millets-A super food or a diet fad?”

Speaking at the programme, SDEO of Shamator, Robert N Marathon, highlighted the importance of Science and Technology and exhorted the students to strive for excellence.

An update from the SDEO office stated that students from both government and private schools participated in the Science fair.

It stated that Tsuyimla from GHSS Shamator won the first prize in the Science seminar, while in the Science exhibition (single category), Kumrimong from Christian High School won the first prize and in the Science exhibition (group category), Rachel and Sotharito from GHSS Shamator won the first prize.

The SDEO gave away cash prizes to the winners and conveyed best wishes where they would represent the district at the state level.

In another programme, the office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Tseminyu, in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education and Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, organised a district-level Science fair on September 2 at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Tseminyu town with Longasen Lotha, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tseminyu, as the guest of honour.

Speaking at the programme, the guest of honour motivated the students to inculcate the ‘spirit of questioning with a human touch and utilise technology for the betterment of society by developing innovative mindsets.’  He also encouraged all stakeholders to create forums for students in order to ignite the spirit of competition to draw out the best in everyone.

The ADC further advised the students saying, “There will be no winners and losers but they should take the avenue as a learning process.”

A total of 13 schools including five private schools and seven government schools participated in the district-level Science fair.

In the Science seminar, Hengwa Seb of Class 10 from Christian School Tseminyu secured the first position, while Tenyenle Kemp of Class 10 from GHSS Teeminyu and Kesogi Kent of Class 9 of AG School Tseminyu won the second and third positions respectively.

In the Science exhibition (individual category), Shonye Semy of Class 10 from DBS Tseminyu won the first position, while Solo Semp of Class 9 from GHSS Tseminyu won the second position. Marlyn Tsela of Class 9 from DBS Tesophenyu and Sobinlo Tep of Class 9 from GHS Kasha jointly shared the third position.

In the Science exhibition (group category), Ngvuyen Rengma and Jochuhyule Khing of Class 10 from BHSS Tseminyu won the first position, while Kvulo Bukh and Vesala Sangtam of Class 9 from GHS Tseminyu New town and Sokenye Kent and Nenshale Jemu of Class 10 and Class 9 from GHS Chunlikha won the second and third positions respectively.

It informed that the champions in each category would compete at the state-level Science fair scheduled on September 12 at GHSS Pfutsero in Phek district.
