Curfew to be relaxed from 6 am to 6 pm; 47 arrested so far

With the considerable improvement of situation in Dimapur the district magistrate has decided to relax ‘total curfew’ for 12 hours on Wednesday (6 am to 6 pm). The situation in Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, is limping back to normalcy on Tuesday after five days of shutdown and curfew following the lynching of rape accused Farid Khan by a strong mob on Thursday last. ‘Total curfew’ was relaxed from Dimapur town from 6 am to 4 pm on Tuesday.
Normal business was witnessed during the day and people in large number thronged the market to buy essential commodities. There was also normal functioning of schools, colleges and offices. Markets of Dimapur also bustled with activities today and the usual scenes of traffic jams were witnessed in the city as roads were again flooded with vehicles.
State police and CRPF personnel were kept on high alert. Till the time of filing this report, no untoward incident was reported.
However, SMS/MMS services continued to be blocked. SMS/MMS services were blocked from Saturday night after videos related to the lynching of the rape accused in Dimapur went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the police have so far arrested 47 people in connection with the lynching of the rape accused.
Dead body recovered
Dimapur police recovered an unidentified body of a female from 2 ½ Mile, Dimapur on Tuesday morning. According to police, the body was recovered opposite TK Service Station. The body believed to be 2-3 days old is suspected to be hit with some blunt object. Investigation is on and the police are waiting for the medical report to know the exact cause of the death.
