Dimapur, Feb. 4 (EMN): Dimapur police has busted a racket involved in issuing fake Covid-19 test report to Manipur-bound passengers and arrested one person in connection with the case.
An update from the office of Dimapur Police Commissioner informed that a police team carried out a covert operation after a police team on surveillance duty in the commercial received information from a reliable source that fake Covid-19 test reports were being sold to passengers travelling to Manipur from Blue Hill bus station.
‘One individual named Mohammad Samung, 39, working for IMA Travels (Dimapur to Imphal) offered to arrange Covid-19 negative reports on payment basis,’ the update said. It was found out during the sting operation that he would arrange fake Covid test report within an hour for INR 500 per report.
“As per the statement of the accused, he used to collect Aadhaar card and money from passengers. Then he would go to Lahorijan, Assam and would pay commission to Testing Centre staff stationed there and arrange for fake Covid-19 test report without travellers being tested physically. This is being investigated and all individuals involved are being thoroughly examined,” read the update.
It went on to add that the accused was arrested and recovered fake Covid-19 test report issued from Lahorijan, Assam-2.
A case has been registered against the accused at Dimapur East Police Station under the IPC r/w Sec 52 Disaster Management Act 2005.
