Dimapur Police arrests 2 in fish contamination case

Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): In a breakthrough, Dimapur Police on Friday arrested two cadres of the NSCN (Khango) in connection with the May 3 incident at the wholesale fish market, Signal Bosti, Dimapur, where unknown miscreants poured chemicals inside 34 boxes of fish.

The two who were arrested in Kohima have been identified as ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ and Kohima ‘Town Commander’ Apuloto Chishi (36 yrs) and ‘2nd Lieutenant’ Kaisha Yepthomi (30 yrs) of the NSCN (Khango), DCP (Crime), Dimapur Police, informed in an update.

A police team led by ACP West along with OC SBN PS, 2nd OC SBN PS and SBN PS team proceeded to Kohima in the wee hours of Friday and with the assistance of electronic surveillance and human intelligence, the team raided a house at New Minister’s Hill, Kohima, and arrested the two accused.

During the raid, police also recovered and seized one 9mm Berreta with 42 live rounds, INR 10,000, 17 booklets of extortion slips and other incriminating documents.

“The vehicle used in the commission of the crime, Alto K10 LXI was also recovered and seized. The arrested accused persons are in police custody at SBN PS,” the police updated.

The arrests were made following a written complaint by the president of Andhra Fish Supply Union at Sub-Urban Police Station, Dimapur, on May 3 regarding threats, extortion and harassment meted to their members by unknown miscreants and pouring of harmful chemicals inside 34 boxes of fish. Accordingly, a case was registered at Sub-Urban Police Station for investigation.

“During the investigation, upon conducting a meticulous examination, some suspects were identified and placed under police surveillance,” the police said.
