Dimapur, Nov. 15 (EMN):
Thirteen persons were arrested on Saturday, November 14, in Dimapur for defying the ban on sale and use of firecrackers.

The public relations officer of Dimapur Police, Relo T Aye, informed that the defaulters were arrested and then released after they were made to sign a letter of undertaking.

Aye said that seven people were caught bursting firecrackers in the vicinities of Blue Hill, Marwari Patti, Dimapur railway station and Burma Camp.

The remaining six were caught selling banned firecrackers in the jurisdiction of West police station, he added.

On November 10, the government of Nagaland had announced a state-wide ban on sale and bursting of firecrackers, effective till January 2021.

It had stated that bursting of firecrackers releases harmful chemicals which have severe impact on the respiratory health of vulnerable groups, and such pollutants may further prove hazardous for recovered as well as active Covid-19 patients.

The order came with a warning that anyone caught violating the ban would be punished under relevant provisions of the Disaster management Act, 2005 and other relevant laws.
