Three women among those arrested
Dimapur, Oct. 24 (EMN): The Dimapur authorities have arrested a number of people in connection with extortion activities. The authorities have also arrested three women on separate drugs and alcohol-related charges.
The establishments of Dimapur’s police commissioner and the Excise Commissioner issued separate press releases on Thursday informing about the enforcement activities.
On October 18, the Dimapur Police anti-extortion team arrested two persons namely identified as self-styled Rajapeyu of the armed group NSCN (U) Puloto Achumi (23) of Project colony in Niuland; and self-styled private of the same group Kivito Kiba (34), also of said colony.
The additional deputy commissioner of Dimapur police issued a press release on Thursday to the media.
Extortion
They were apprehended while collecting illegal “tax” near Faith Hospital in Dimapur, the police stated. The authorities recovered INR 670 in cash from the possession of Achumi, the police stated. In this connection, in this connection a ‘case’ has been registered at west police station, the updates stated.
On October 21, the anti-extortion team apprehended two persons namely Phushito Aye (35), stated to be a self- styled ‘finance secy’ of the GPRN/NNC (N/A) of Tichipami in Zunheboto, present address at Bank colony; and Akhevi (28), also from Bank colony, for collecting “yearly tax” of the GPRN/NNC (N/A) outfits. The authorities recovered INR 1300 in cash from their possession, the police stated.
On the 23rd of October, the Dimapur police apprehended one Inavi Achumi, stated to be a self-styled “dy. kilonser” of the NSCN (K), and from Nitoi, for “illegal tax collection” from various transport agencies and business establishments in Dimapur town areas.
“One mobile handset along with a SIM card used for making multiple extortion calls was also seized from his possession. In this connection a case has been registered at East police station,” the press release added.
Drugs
Two women too have been arrested by authorities on charges of possessing drugs. On October 22, the Dimapur Police arrested two women namely Imkongsangla (30) of Senapati Bazar in Manipur and Angela (27) of Khaikho village in Senapati of Manipur. They were apprehended from Hotel Star Inn in Dimapur, the police stated. The police said to have found 10 packets of brown sugar in packets weighing 10 grams each, from their possession, the police stated.
The deputy commissioner of Excise issued a press release on Thursday to the media informing about the arrest of another woman, after authorities found alcohol in her car. The narcotics cell of the Excise department seized a total of 240 bottles of India-made foreign liquor (IMFL) on October 24 from the Excise check gate at Chumukedima in Dimapur at around 5:40 am, the authorities stated.
‘On suspicion, the Excise narcotic cell duty party stopped a Maruti van bearing the registration number NL 07 1291, and on frisking recovered the IMFL concealed inside wheat bran, a cattle feed, and egg cartons. In this connection, one Mrs. Akali, 46 years, a resident of Phek district, was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989,’ the Excise stated.
