The Station Head Officer (SHO) of Vasant Vihar police station in New Delhi, Anil Sharma, has appealed the police departments in the NE states to be cooperative in the process of tenant verification. He also urged the NE students’ representatives to request their respective police departments to be responsive to the verification process as more and more students keep coming there every year.“We keep sending verification documents to respective NE state departments but we often receive a very cold response,” said Sharma at the meeting of Delhi police with NE students’ representatives in his office at today morning. The meeting was aimed to review the progress and address the grievances of NE communities and also to seek suggestions from NE communities for their wellbeing in Delhi.
Finding an alternative means to the delay, the Delhi Police has asked NE communities to directly take tenant verification forms from them and submit it with a valid identity proof. If the form is submitted with relevant proof of identity, it is not required to send it back to their respective states for verification. The documents which the police would consider are valid passport, driving licence with chip, voter ID with hologram, domicile certificate and tribe/caste certificate.
It may be mentioned here that in the wake of terror attacks, it has become mandatory for everyone living as a tenant in Delhi to be verified by the police, to ensure the safety of citizens.
