Kohima, Jan. 14 (EMN):
The consultation in connection with the demand for upgrading Shamator sub-division into a full-fledged district and Tikhir tribe recognition is moving in a “positive direction”, an official said on Friday.

The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) and Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) were said to have reached an “understanding” during Thursday’s consultative meeting on Shamator district upgrade and Tikhir tribe recognition.

“There is good understanding regarding the above issues between the two tribal councils now,” Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha told Eastern Mirror on Friday.

He added that the final decision on the issues is “expected shortly”.

“There is a process to be followed. However, things are moving in positive direction,” he said.

A person who attended the consultative meeting also told this newspaper that the YTC and TTC had reached a level of understanding but the final decision on upgrading Shamator ub-division into a new district and Tikhir tribe recognition were not taken on Thursday.

However, the source, who did not wish to be named, said that a decision on the same is expected soon.

It may be mentioned that the government of Nagaland announced the creation of three new districts – Tseminyu, Niuland and Chümoukedima – last month, which sparked off demand for upgrading Shamator sub-division into a full-fledged district.

The YTC called off its agitation last week after the state cabinet decided to engage a third party to discuss matters related to the Shamator district demand.
