Death strikes disputed area again

DIMAPUR, MAY 13

THE border dispute between Karbi Anglong and Nagaland turned volatile again today with the killing of a youth from Diezephe village, reportedly by Assam Police. The 30-year-old man was on a fishing trip with a friend in Dhansiri river. They were reportedly using “batteries” while fishing.
Police sources said that the incident occurred near Murise village across the Dhansiri river on the Assam side. An Assam Police outpost is also located about 900-1000 yards away from where the incident took place.
The deceased along with his friend was taking a break at around 4:pm when they were shot at. The deceased died instantly after receiving a gunshot above his left temple.
The nearby residents said they heard five gun shots. Five empty shells of 7.62 mm used in Self Loading Rifles (SLR) were also recovered by the Nagaland Police personnel from the Sub Urban Police Station, after they rushed to the spot on receipt of the information. They recovered the body with a gun-shot above his temple.
The battery which was used for fishing has been confiscated, police sources informed.
The body has been handed over to the family members after necessary formalities.
The deceased has been identified as Ento Nyekha, son of Zavenyi Nyekha of Diezephe village under Dhansiripar Block in Dimapur.
