Deadpool continues to enjoy success at the U.S. box office as it has stayed in the number one spot for the second consecutive week.
The movie, which sees Ryan Reynolds in the title role, took a further $55 million in its second weekend on release to easily hold off the challenge from animation film Kung Fu Panda 3.
In just two weeks, the movie has grossed over $491 million at the global box office and has been met with critical acclaim. Deadpool was one of the most talked about comic book movies of 2016 and it is a film that has not disappointed. There was no move at number two as Kung Fu Panda 3 stayed put for another week. The movie sees Jack Black return to voice the lovable Po, who comes face to face with his long-lost father.
Risen was the highest new entry inside the top ten this week, as the Joseph Fiennes movie opened at number three. The Witch was also new in at four.
The Witch is a horror film that lit up the festival circuit last year and is set to be one of the best films in this genre in 2016. UK audiences are going to have to wait another couple of weeks until the film hits the big screen.
Comedy How To Be Single rounded off the top five as the Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson movie slipped two places from last week’s number three.
Race was the third and final new entry inside the top ten as the movie, which is based on Jesse Owen’s quest for Olympic glory, was new in at number six.
Zoolander 2 was a three place faller this week as the Ben Stiller directed film slipped from four to number seven. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was also down, as it moved a single place to number eight.
Despite all of the award fever surrounding The Revenant and the central performance from Leonardo DiCaprio, the film was one of this week’s biggest fallers, slipped from five to number nine.
Hail, Caesar – which sees Joel and Ethan Coen back in the director’s chair – was another four place faller, as it finished the weekend at number ten.
