Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has extended support and solidarity to the 72-hour ‘chakka bandh’ called by the All Nagaland Goods Movers’ Union (ANGMU) from September 5 to the 7th.

DCCI, in a press release on Sunday, said the August 26 firing incident in which one employee of ‘TS Goods Carrier’ at Kalibari Road near DMC office sustained injuries was ‘shocking’ and condemned such acts which threatened the lives of citizens, especially the business community.

“Time and again, DCCI has raised the serious issue of certain elements harassing the Dimapur-based transporters in the form of monetary demands and threats through mobile calls and SMSs. Earlier too, there were instances of these elements coming with their own lock and keys and shutting down offices of the transporters if their demands were not entertained,” it stated.

The trade body demanded the law enforcing agencies to take swift and prompt action against the perpetrators to instill a sense of security amongst the business community.

DCCI also appealed to all citizens of Dimapur to bear with the inconvenience due to the chakka bandh. It stated that the transporters were compelled to call for the bandh to express their resentment over increasing harassment meted out to them by different groups.
