DC Kohima issues order on encroachment of national highways
Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, has informed the general public that encroachment of national highways by street vendors, hawkers, etc., has disrupted smooth flow of vehicle traffic and pedestrian movement.
The DC in an order dated January 12, also stated that national highways are being encroached by construction of permanent and temporary structures by various individuals and parties.
This causes concern for future road up-gradation projects and poses dangers for road accidents and stampede, etc, it stated.
In the interest of public safety and order, the DC directed that all such structures and activities encroaching upon national highways have been prohibited with immediate effect.
It further informed the general public that necessary action shall be initiated against defaulter under “Control of National Highways (Land & Traffic) Act 2002.”
