COVID-19: Manipur reports 22 fresh cases

Imphal, July 6 (EMN): Manipur continues to witness a steady rise of new infections since the past few days as 22 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours and registered a single day positivity rate of 8.1%.

With this figure, the number of active cases has increased to 79. Of them, 70 are in home isolation.

Among the districts, Imphal West remained one of the most vulnerable districts as the maximum number of fresh COVID infections has been reported from the district since the past few days. Since Thursday (June 30) till Wednesday, Imphal West has reported 42 COVID cases.

According to the Manipur COVID-19 Common Control Room, the number of recovered cases in Manipur as on Wednesday is 1,35,146. On July 6, the state had a recovery rate of 98.40%. The overall caseload in Manipur is 1,37,345 and the death toll from the virus is 2,120.

On the rise of the COVID- 19 in the state in the past one week, Dr. K Rajo, Director of Manipur  Health department said, “So we’re taking up all the preventive measures. We’ve also started to arrange COVID care centres. Presently one centre is functioning in Imphal.”

“We’ve also issued orders asking all the big hospitals to reserve beds (for COVID patients) and circulating orders to districts for their alertness and strengthening the surveillance programmes etc,” he said.

“So no need for worry, but people have to follow the COVID appropriate behaviour,” he said. “Most importantly masking can prevent not only the COVID-19 but from other diseases as well.”

As per the latest update of the Health department on vaccination, 29,72,319 doses including first dose of 15,95589 second dose of 12,61,998 and precautionary dose of 1,14,732, have been administered in Manipur.

The first COVID -19 positive case in Manipur was reported on March 24, 2020 while the first death case due to the pandemic was reported on July 29 the same year.
