Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): In the wake of growing concerns over the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Nukmen Baptist Arogo (Ao Baptist Church), Darogapathar has launched a gamut of initiatives to create awareness about the disease and to prevent its spread in Nagaland state.

This was informed by the office assistant of the church through a press release on Wednesday. Spearheaded by the social and environmental concern committee of the Church, its members and fulltime workers sanitised the entire Church complex on March 18, it said.

Pastor of the Church Kilang Longkumer stated that in the midst of scare and doubt created by both fake and genuine news about the novel coronavirus among the worshippers, the members of the committee decided to take up the multi-faceted campaign, especially sanitising the Church complex to dispel their fear and focus their hearts and minds on the “Word of God”.

Longkumer went on to inform that ‘the Church would work towards preventing spread of fake news and assist the government and other agencies in disseminating authentic information to the general mass’.

“This exercise will be carried out every Wednesday, Saturday and Sundays when the Church conducts worship services. The Church, Sunday school, children worship centre buildings as well as the church bus will be sanitised on a regular basis,” the press release read.

It added that the committee would distribute specially designed and stickered children’s masks to the Sunday school children as they are said to be prone to Covid-19 and all the worship centres and Sunday school of the church will be provided with hand washing facilities and hand sanitisers. ‘Special demonstration on hand washing techniques will also be carried out for the benefit of the Church members and other settlers of the village. Posters and placards containing vital information will also be displayed at vantage points in the village to generate awareness pertaining to the dreaded disease caused by the novel coronavirus,’ the statement informed.
