Congress welcomes former NPF officials

Mokokchung, March 19 (EMN): The District Congress Committee (DCC) of Mokokchung welcomed in to fold former Naga People’s Front (NPF) members from 30th Alongtaki assembly constituency in Mokokchung district, led by a former president, on Tuesday.
A programme was held at the DCC’s Mokokchung office to welcome the former NPF assembly constituency president Limakumba and his supporters to the Congress. Senior Congress leaders from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, advisors and other officials attended the event.

The DCC’s President Watimongba welcomed the new members. He asserted that the Indian National Congress was ‘unable to stand on its ground for more than 15 years because of leadership crises within the party.’

The party has now let go of its ‘past misadventures’ and now rejuvenating to work to regain its glory, he said.
Saying that the elections are a fight against communal forces, he called upon his party workers to prepare for the Lok Sabha elections and the by-elections to the 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency to support the party’s consensus candidates and ‘bring the Congress honour back in the state.’

“In politics, the winners are selfless who strive to win therefore I pray the God is with us in his venture,” he told the party workers.
Former president of the NPF’s 30th Alongtaki unit Limakumba acknowledged the warm welcome to the Congress.

He said that he and his colleagues were ‘forced to resign in July 2018 because of internal issues.’
He announced that the Congressmen and women of Alongtaki assembly constituency are ‘fully committed,’ declaring their allegiance to the party’s consensus candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and the by-elections.

DCC officials informed that the party’s ticket distribution programme will be held at the Kohima Bhavan on March 21 in Kohima.

The date for the declaration of the party’s candidate for the 26th Alonglenden assembly constituency by-election is scheduled for March 22. Filing of nominations for the by-election will be March 23, it was
informed.
