Confident about defeating BJP in upcoming KAAC election, says APCC President

Diphu, Sep. 2 (EMN):  Working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and MLA, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Thursday assessed the party function and preparation for the forthcoming election to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, which is due next year.

He met with party workers and leaders at the office of Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) to discuss the activities and programmes of the party. He also participated in the joint extended meeting of KADCC, where party workers and leaders discussed various possibilities of strengthening the party in the hill districts ahead of the KAAC election.

The MLA said there were all possibilities of electoral alliance with the regional party in the forthcoming KAAC election to defeat the BJP in Karbi Anglong.

“There will be an electoral understanding with regional parties in the forthcoming KAAC elections in order to defeat the BJP. Whatever decision taken by the KADCC on the electoral alliance with the regional party will be placed in the Congress Core Committee. The final outcome will be declared ahead of the KAAC election”, Purkayastha said.

Purkayastha also said that compared to the 2019 Parliamentary election the vote count of Congress in this Assembly election in Assam has increased. Based on the increase of votes in Congress there is confidence that Congress will win the KAAC election.
