Dimapur, Aug. 2 (EMN): The Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) toured the border area of Tsürangkong under Mokokchung district and Merapani area under Wokha district to assess and take stock of the situation.

An update from CNSA stated that people of the area were “living under a very vulnerable and insecure situation fighting for their survival because of the lack of basic necessities like road, water, electricity, healthcare and security from the state,” it read.

CNSA has therefore appealed to the state government ‘to treat the inter-state boundary as Nagaland and Assam and not as a community struggling with Assam’.

It further urged the state government to post and place IRB and NAP battalion in border areas; setup village guards (VGs) and issue gun licenses to the villagers living in the border areas for safety and security of the people; expedite Foothill road for safety and security of the people; abrogate bilateral agreement of 1972 and 1979 with Assam Government immediately; separate directorate for department of Border Affairs be created with dedicated officer of an appropriate seniority/level; include all MLAs from the border areas in the state and inter-state boundary committees.
