Dimapur, Aug. 7 (EMN): The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Nagaland (SCPCRN), Awan Konyak has said that children are the asset of the nation and therefore called upon all to ensure the children to have dignity and meaningful life in a safe environment.

A press release issued by the District Child Protection Officer of Wokha, Sekho Sawhuo, stated that Awan Konyak was speaking at a district level consultation on child rights and protection at Wokha which was organized by the SCPCRN and the District Child Protection Unit, Wokha.

The chairperson, in her address, highlighted that the commission was set up in October 2013 for better and effective implementation of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme in the state. She informed that the commission, at present, is working for the children who are in conflict with laws and also with children in need of care and protection in collaboration with the various stakeholders in the respective district. She asserted that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to ensure that children have a dignified and meaningful life in a safe environment since the children are the asset of the nation.

Meanwhile, the release also stated that the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Dr. Manzir Jelani Samoon, who was the special guest at the programme, stressed on the importance of protecting the children by the society, community and village since children are the most vulnerable section in the society.

While urging the stakeholders to give due care, due attention and due dignity towards the children and for the psychological development, the deputy commissioner also shared his concern about some social issues that are detrimental to the welfare and well-being of the child.

Short speeches on child friendly legal services for children, district child protection mechanism and stakeholders for child protection were delivered by District Legal Service Authority Wokha, District Child Protection Unit Wokha and Child Welfare Committee Wokha respectively.

The programme was attended by the local church pastor, youth leaders, student leaders, colony chairman, Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) and women leaders, the release further informed.
